Project Dressing Table

I love reading blogs, watching you tube videos and, my personal addiction, scrolling through pictures on Instagram. One of the things that always catches my eye is how people have their dressing tables set up. I have major dressing table envy when I see the beautiful set ups others have so I decided I would use my last week off work to get myself a stylish set up of my own!

Before:

Like a pro I completely forgot to take a picture of what I had before! I’d be dangerous if I had brains!  My before set up was a real mishmash of plastic drawers, a dark set of drawers with see through plastic front and a long mirror propped on top. In all honesty it looked a total mess – probably why I have no photos of it!

The plan:

I decided to look for a dressing table on eBay that I could paint up as I now have the Annie Sloan bug after painting up an old chair recently…

After searching for a while I found an amazing 1950s style dressing table that I ended up getting for the bargain price of £6.50! Got to love ebay 😍

Making it mine:

Once we had collected the dressing table I was in love, but wanted to make it more my style. I chose to use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Duck Egg Blue to give it a grey/blue finish. I also picked up some large pink coloured rose handles to use from TK Maxx.

The painting was so easy! With chalk paint there is no need to sand or prime, you can just slap it straight on – perfect for me as I’m so impatient!

After painting I needed to wax it. This but took the most time and effort and after struggling to get the technique at first I found my rhythm in the end!

All done:

I’m so in love with the finished dressing table. In the end I decided to stick to the original handles as I felt the others were a bit too bulky. No more dressing table envy for me 😄

I know – couldn’t believe it when it told me I’d won it! Ebay has its uses 😃 So pleased with how it’s turned out. Got a set of drawers I’m going to do in half term now I’ve got the furniture painting bug.
